Sanctions Programs Atlas

Although OFAC sanctions span the globe and target a diverse set of actors and activities, many sanctions programs relate to a specific country or region. OFAC’s Sanctions Atlas is an educational tool that provides a geographic visualization of those OFAC sanctions programs that relate to specific countries (e.g., Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Russia). Users of this interface may search for the name of a country or click on the country on the map to see a list of related sanctions programs. To view sanctions programs without a specific country focus (e.g., Counter Narcotics, Counter Terrorism, Non-Proliferation), click on the “Other Sanctions Programs” link at the bottom of the map. Not all OFAC sanctions programs that include the name of a country in the program name prohibit dealings with that entire country or geographic region; many sanctions programs include a country name but employ only list-based sanctions. Please visit OFAC’s Frequent Asked Question 10 for more information on the different types of OFAC-administered sanctions programs.

Return to OFAC’s Sanctions Programs and Country Information page for a complete list of sanctions programs.

Use of the Sanctions Atlas is not a substitute for undertaking appropriate due diligence regarding OFAC sanctions regulations. Also, use of the Sanctions Atlas does not limit any criminal or civil liability for any act undertaken as a result of, or in reliance on, such use.

OFAC sanctions programs vary so not all sanctions associated with a specific country prohibit dealings with the entire country; many sanctions programs include a country name but employ only list-based sanctions. Some of these sanctions are comprehensive in nature and broadly prohibit most transactions involving the particular jurisdiction and may also include blocking restrictions on the government of such jurisdiction. These jurisdictions include both countries and certain geographic regions.
We encourage users to visit OFAC’s Sanctions List Search tool to find specific sanctioned persons (including individuals or entities) located in a country.  Please note that OFAC’s sanctions lists may not include a comprehensive list of all associated addresses or the current location of each sanctioned person.
