To further improve customer service, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is transitioning its Licensing Hotline to a new online platform.
Since moving the Licensing Hotline to a callback-only system in July 2024, OFAC has improved the specific licensing experience by introducing a new website design and additional application-related tools. These changes successfully reduced call volume and response times on the Licensing Hotline.
For greater efficiency receiving and responding to licensing-related questions, the OFAC Licensing Hotline is now accepting questions directly through an online form. Users of the online platform will receive answers to their questions about OFAC specific licenses and interpretive guidance via email or by phone.
Before submitting a question to the Licensing Hotline, OFAC encourages you to:
- Review Frequently Asked Questions about OFAC Licenses on our website;
- Walk through the application process through the OFAC Basics Video "Applying for a License to Release Blocked Funds" and reference OFAC's "Best Practices for License Applicants" guide; or
- Check your application's status and learn more about its progress.
OFAC will fully transition its Licensing Hotline to the new online platform and retire its callback-only telephone system on August 29, 2025.
As a reminder, please contact the OFAC Licensing Hotline with questions about OFAC specific licenses and interpretive guidance, including the application process. Please continue to direct general questions about sanctions administered by OFAC to OFAC's Compliance Hotline. Other information about contacting OFAC, including where to submit voluntary self-disclosures or appeal designations, can be found on our Contact OFAC page.
